Edale (3)

Reachable via a choice of steep paths out of Edale, this is the summit of Grindslow Knoll (601m; 1972 feet), with the Kinder Scout plateau beyond.

Kinder Scout, even though it is boggy, desolate and inhospitable, is popular with walkers. It was the scene of the Mass Trespass of 1932 which led to the creation of National Parks, and ultimately of Access Land in 2000.

Because they are so well used, some of the paths across the plateau have been reinforced with large slabs of stone to prevent erosion, and walking is now much easier and drier. Nevertheless, it's still best visited in good weather.
