Wentworth Castle (8)

A view through the gardens towards the Sun Memorial. It's not known when this was first erected, but it now forms a memorial to Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, who died in 1762. (See next page for more about her.)

It was probably dedicated to her by William Wentworth (1722–1791), who was responsible for remodelling Wentworth Castle as it appears today.
