The Seven Sisters
The Seven Sisters

This is the name given to the famous cliffs on the Sussex coast between Cuckmere Haven and Beachy Head, a few miles west of Eastbourne.

On the furthest cliff top is Belle Tout lighthouse. Some years ago this was moved inland because the cliff edge is gradually eroding and falling into the sea. It's no longer used as a lighthouse, but has been converted to a bed and breakfast establishment.

Erosion is a constant danger on this stretch of the coast. This is felt particularly acutely where there are settlements on the cliff top such as at Birling Gap, seen here at the low point before Belle Tout.
