View
from Seaford Head
Seaford was once a port at the mouth of the River Ouse, but a
massive storm in 1579 diverted the river to a more westerly course.
This gave Seaford a long seafront but not much of a harbour, and led to
the building of a port at the new mouth of the river - Newhaven.
Seaford
Head, a nature reserve, can be approached either by a steep path from
the seafront, or from a car park higher up. (We always used the path -
honest!) From the top there are views to the west over Newhaven and
towards Brighton, as seen here. To the east, looking towards Beachy
Head, the view takes in Cuckmere Haven and the chalk cliffs of the
Seven Sisters.
